About Me

Matt Thompsett

My name is Matt Thompsett, and I am a freelance proofreader based in the UK. Firstly why Hatters Editorial? Well, I have a passion for all things Luton Town FC and had to incorporate this somehow!

Before turning to the editorial services world, I spent twenty years working as an animal keeper within the UK zoo world. Once I reached a managerial position and felt I had achieved all that I wanted to (as well as my body having enough), I jumped to editorial services, training and expanding my love of reading even further.

Having qualified as a proofreader in 2023, I am fully immersed in this profession. I specialise in animal literature, using my twenty years of experience in this field as well as children’s literature. However, other work can be discussed as well.

I am a fully qualified proofreader with my qualifications coming from CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading), having completed:

  • Proofreading 1: Introduction
  • Proofreading 2: Headway
  • Proofreading 3: Progress

Away from proofreading, I love to read, with crime thrillers being a particular favourite. Harlan Coben, Steve Cavanagh etc. As mentioned, I am a regular attendee of the mighty Hatters, where my dad and I have experienced many highs and lows. I still like to regularly visit zoos and animal attractions, keeping up with the industry and visiting old friends, both human and otherwise!
